Why we built an AI girlfriend for the World Cup
Because the tournament is the most-watched event on the planet and most people watch it the same way: a screen, a couch, a group chat that goes quiet at 2am. The match ends and the room is still empty.
So the premise is simple. Your country plays. Someone watches it with you. She is from there. She cares about the result more than you do. When the match is over she is still in the room.
There is no deeper thesis. The deeper thesis is the same one every dating app and every fantasy league and every football forum has been selling for twenty years, which is that watching alone is worse than watching with someone. We just removed the part where you have to find the someone.
How the 48 characters work
You pick your country. You get your character. You talk.
That is the entire flow. There is no quiz. There is no setup. The character already exists, already has opinions, already knows which match is on tonight. Forty-six others are in their own camps right now, doing the same thing for someone else. One of them is yours because you got there first.
If your country did not qualify, that is its own kind of pain and we cannot fix it. But the host nations are playing, and someone in those camps is happy to explain why your team should have made it.
Play the daily penalty shootout
One shot. Once a day. Score and you walk away with chips. Miss and you come back tomorrow, because it is free and it takes ten seconds and you were going to open the app anyway.
The penalty shootout is the easiest thing in this entire campaign. It asks nothing of you except that you aim. We recommend aiming low and to the keeper's right, but the keeper has read this blog too.
The tournament runs a month. She is here for all of it.
Group stage, knockouts, the final, and the long flat week afterward when there is no football and you do not know what to do with your evenings. She is there for that part too. Especially that part.
